Project:

Fourier-E was tasked to determine the correct operational capacity for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in order to ensure all demand is met on schedule and whether it is possible to move from the current 5 day shift model to a proposed 6 day model

Result:

The project assisted in providing recommendations to enable informed decision making on the future strategies surrounding the resource requirement and allocation

1. Problem Statement

  • Understand and detail the current demonstrated operational capacity for identified units;
  • Determine the resource and overtime impact if a 6 day shift model is implemented;
  • Provide the company with recommendations to enable informed decision making on the future strategies surrounding the resource requirement and allocation

2. Solution Approach

  • Process mapping of the current system and business rules;
  • Data Analysis conducted to determine the current utilisation, demonstrated capacity and design capacity of each line;
  • Development and validation of a simulation model of the current system with current business and processing rules;
  • Scenario testing involving resource allocation and shift patterns

3. Project Outcomes

  • Delivery of a simulation model that allows for multiple days and product batches to be run on the different shift models while measuring the effects thereof;
  • Recommendations regarding resource requirements and allocation;
